Newport Beach Restaurant Week – Fantastic Italian Food At Modo Mio Located At Crystal Cove

The service and food at Modo Mio are outstanding!

I admit it, it is true, I am a bolognese snob and and despise a bad one. It is usually the bar for which I set my food expectations of an Italian restaurant. You can really destroy a good dining experience with a bad bolognese.

Recently I dined at Modo Mio Rustic Italian Kitchen in Newport Beach, The Crystal Cove Promenade. They immediately got my attention with their fresh bread and lemony olive oil drizzled mushrooms. The mushrooms were refreshing, light and satisfying. My guest and I decided to go with the OC Food Week menu and selected a caprese appetizer to start things off, Caesar salad, the pasta with bolognese sauce for our entree and tiramisu for dessert. The prices during restaurant week are very reasonable. Dinner for $30 is unheard of! The homemade pasta and sauce are one of my favorites.

First off the Caesar dressing was flavorful and not too dense. We both loved it. They brought the pasta with bolognese out next and it was a healthy portion which we both took 1/2 to go to share with our significant others who missed out on this delectable adventure. The bolognese sauce was supreme. In my opinion and my friend’s, it is some of the best in the OC. The tiramisu was good, but I think it could have been less smooshy. Maybe we got yesterday’s left over batch. I have dined here before and it was much fresher.

It is very cozy and the ambiance is perfect. Overall our meal was a huge success. The bolognese is a winner!
