When in Roma, you must visit Harry’s Bar. This bar is full of glamour and style. Walk into a flashback of the days where Sinatra and Sophia Loren could be seen spending time among friends.
The place was originally opened in 1918 under the name Golden Gate. The owner was an American from San Francisco who inspired by her home named it Golden Gate. She was bored with her monotonous life in Rome and wanted a place to spend with her friends. It was a posh tea saloon for many years.
In 1950 it was purchased and the new owner decided to renovate and make changes. It re-opened as Harry’s Bar. Instead of a tea saloon, it became a bar, pastry shop and restaurant.
The 60’s saw a boost in the economy and Harry’s became the spot to be for many celebrities. Some of the celebrities include Frank Sinatra, Audrey Hepburn, Marlon Brando, Lana Turner, Ava Gardner and Silvana Pampanini. Frank could be seen playing the piano on many occasions.
